Trauma Body Awareness

Trauma has profound effects on the body & nervous system, clients suffering from unresolved trauma nearly always report un-regulated body experiences; and strong uncontrollable emotions and physical sensations. They are often haunted by the return of trauma-related reactions in such forms as intrusive images, sounds, smells, body sensations, physical pain, and constriction and numbing.

Frequently the “body” is left out of any talking therapy, therefore Family Affect therapy includes body sensation and movement to enable children to gain awareness of bodily sensations and learn physical actions which promote empowerment and control. In the therapy sessions clients learn how their physical sensations, postures and movements affect their emotional states and influence the words and content they describe in the therapy. Gaining body awareness provides a whole mind-body approach to the treatment of trauma.
