I truly believe that compassion provides the basis of human survival.Dalai Lama
Compassion is the feeling of empathy for others. Compassion is the emotion that we feel in response to your/the child suffering that motivates a desire to help. Compassion (co-suffering) gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another’s suffering, not necessarily to ‘save’ but to help him/her to regulate any negative affect such as fear, shame, anger or sadness, therefore ‘containing’ the emotion experienced. Showing that you are not scared of what your/the child is scared of, can be experienced as quite liberating & creates a feeling of safety building upon a secure base.
The principle of compassion is to do unto others what you would have them to do you. Compassion is considered among the greatest of virtues.← Back to Resources
