Compassion

I truly believe that compassion provides the basis of human survival.

Dalai Lama

Compassion is the feeling of empathy for others. Compassion is the emotion that we feel in response to your/the child suffering that motivates a desire to help. Compassion (co-suffering) gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another’s suffering, not necessarily to ‘save’ but to help him/her to regulate any negative affect such as fear, shame, anger or sadness, therefore ‘containing’ the emotion experienced. Showing that you are not scared of what your/the child is scared of, can be experienced as quite liberating & creates a feeling of safety building upon a secure base.

The principle of compassion is to do unto others what you would have them to do you. Compassion is considered among the greatest of virtues.
